In addition to all the important and meaningful classroom discussions and activities related to Orange Shirt Day that we have had throughout the week, our school took part in an assembly on Friday that focused on the message of Phyllis Webstad and the importance of being free to be yourself. We are all part of the fabric of Canada. We all matter. Every child matters.
An important part of our ceremony was the lowering of our flags as we prepared for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Along with many orange shirts, each staff and student brought an orange painted rock to our assembly. Each class participated in making a collective art installation that is a symbol for our ongoing efforts to honor Truth and Reconciliation.
