Earth Week Adventures!

Posted on 2025-04-25 07:00:00 +0000 UTC

It may have been a short week, but wow did we ever pack a lot of awesome environmental activities into it! Starting with three divisions participating in the Environmental Expo at Piccadilly Mall on Tuesday. It was great to see the students of Mr. Styles, Ceren and Madame’s classes sharing their work and environmentalism with the public! Wednesday was packed with our annual “South Canoe Scurry” cross-country running race at Klahani with invited guests, the students of North Canoe. Big thanks to Suzy Beckner for taking the lead on organizing this great event. The fun didn’t stop there, as we walked back to the school for lunch and then an outdoor afternoon concert with Whitehorse’s envirosinger, Remy Rodden. With a combined audience of North and South Canoe schools, Remy put on a great show! Thursday’s whole school Canoe Beach clean-up day was a tremendous success with much litter removed from the shore of Shuswap Lake. The day was made that much better by the incredible weather and the opportunity to hike in the nearby Park Hill trail network. To cap off Earth Week on Friday, each student was presented with a “tree of hope” seedling to plant and help make our world a better place. “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese Proverb
