Letter from Superintendent

Dear South Canoe Staff, Parents, and Guardians:

RE: South Canoe Elementary – Temporary Transition to Remote Learning

After discussion with appropriate parties, including Interior Health and the Ministry of Education, we have determined it is in the best interest of the South Canoe Elementary School community to shift to remote learning commencing Monday, January 18, 2021, and we ask you to keep your students at home during this time. This transition will be assessed every few days, as information becomes available regarding further COVID-19 exposures and the availability of staff, with the most likely length of this time being between one and two weeks.

I understand that teachers have already begun to prepare learning packages, and that they will continue to organize learning opportunities that will commence as soon as is practicable next week. As well, staff will be reaching out to parents to help organize resources and communicate next steps. Principal Jared King will be in further communication with you as necessary, and will keep you informed around the return to regular learning.

I wish to thank all of you for your patience and support in these challenging times. Please know that I am keenly aware of the pressures such temporary closures can cause for families, and that these decisions are not made without serious consideration.

In closing, I would like to recognize Principal King for his ongoing efforts, as well as thank the staff who attended the site today, some on very short notice, to make sure students were cared for properly.

Good health to everyone.

Sincerely,

Peter Jory Superintendent/CEO

School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap)
